A unique piece of art for using and enjoying
The harvest mice are so cute it’s a delight to paint them on a mug, each mug is unique. Working from one of my photographs I paint the mugs in batches of about 6 so that there is consistency in the colours of the mice. With the paint, I build layers of colour which creates texture on the mug and adds to their vibrancy. The paints are ceramic and once dry are baked in the oven to cure the paint which makes them dishwasher proof. The mugs we are using are beautifully thin bone china, just right for a lovely cup of tea or coffee. This mouse is all on our small Balmoral stock which gives you a small cup of tea or coffee and is perfect as children’s mug. To see more information and compare sizes link here.
About the harvest mouse in the picture
I spent a day with wildlife photographer Sarah Darnell. Sarah is based in one of my favourite counties for wildlife Norfolk. We met on a course in the States but we then went and spent a few days with Sarah in Norfolk. Sarah was breeding harvest mice at the time and we got a rare opportunity to photograph them, they are so cute. We promised not to sell any of our picture but I am using them for paintings and they are lovely to do. They run up ears of corn or poppies and sit there posing for you. If several go they wrap their tails around each others tail which adds to cuteness (new mug coming). Please note these mugs are only painted on one side.
Harvest mice are Europe’s smallest rodents with a remarkable prehensile tail. This long, hairless ‘limb’ aids climbing through the tall, dense vegetation of their meadow, hedgerow and crop field homes. In the UK, they are rarely found north of Yorkshire or in Wales.
Customise your mug
Customise your harvest mouse with a message, a name, a date of birth in all of one of 4 places. Either side of the handle, between the pictures or on the bottom of the mug. You will be given the option at checkout to add personalised messages. The messages are handwritten on to the mugs and you can choose capitals, mixed case or lower case. We will ask you to supply the spelling by email to ensure we don’t make any errors. See examples here
Care for your mug
The painted mugs have a texture created by the build-up of the paint. They are dishwasher safe and fade safe. Do not use abrasive cloths or scourers on the painting and it can damage or remove the paint.
