The Quality of the Mugs
One element of our story is that we had a shabby mug collection and didn’t really like any of them. Having started to play with the ceramic paints the next thing to find was the right mug. For the painted mugs we’ve chosen 3 sizes. The design we picked is called Balmoral, it a straight edged mug and comes in 3 standard sizes, small, large and extra large. Most of our designs are on the small and large mugs, the extra large size can be requested for bespoke commissions – they are slightly tougher and would be a perfect, high quality, garden mugs for lovely summer days.
The Tea Vat
We were asked to paint a large dog on a large mug so the challenge was to find a beautiful large well balanced fine mug – and here it is! Holding just under a pint, the Tea Vat is our largest mug and it is a bit of a beast. It stands 10cm tall and 10cm wide and weighs about 315 grams but is still made of the same high-quality bone china as our smaller mugs. Extra Large Balmoral
Also bone china, these mugs stand 8.9cm high and is 8.9cm wide (all measurements are taken from the outside edge). It is slightly thicker than the Classic Balmoral we use and therefore slightly tougher. The extra width is lovely, but it is slightly heavier and therefore not so fine. Perfect for tea in the garden on beautiful days, but if you are after a particularly fine bone china mug the classic Balmoral would probably suit you better.

The Classic Balmoral: our most popular mug
This is a lovely fine bone china mug and we were delighted to find this size. It stands 9cm high and is 8.5 wide and is a real pleasure to drink from. What we’ve noticed is that there can be a slight difference between batches sometimes 10-12 grams difference in weight. If you are thinking of ordering a set of mugs and you are not in a hurry we would recommend contacting us to place the order and we will ensure your mugs are from the same batch or we’ll paint to order on the same stock.

The Small Balmoral perfect for children's mugs
This is a delightful little mug, the proportions and weight are lovely. We’ve chosen it as one of our children’s mugs as there is plenty of room for a picture and custom name on the mug but at 7.5cm wide and 8.5cm high they are a much nicer size for little hands! They would also be perfect for coffee.

Children's mug
Our children’s mug is perfect for children’s tea and hot chocolate. It has a large easy to grasp the handle. Add their favourite pet or animal, their name and date of birth or any other text to make it a personalised gift. Something they will want to keep forever.
If you want to combine a plate and a mug we recommend you use the Small Balmoral with our 6-inch coupe or rimmed plate as they sit well together. Have a Chloe Cox Originals painting on a children’s mug or your own pet photograph
The Espresso Cup
This is a lovely fine bone china mug and we were delighted to find this size. It’s the perfect espresso size and beautifully fine to go with it and is a real pleasure to drink from. What we’ve noticed is that there can be a slight difference between batches and there can be variations in the symmetry of the cups. We’ve not yet painted on these but are planning to do so as soon as we get a moment
These churn jugs speak for themselves, once we’d found them we knew we had to paint on them. The large or classic jug would make a fantastic flower vase or lemonade jug. The small and the mini belong on a tray with milk, a cup or two and a teapot. The mini is a challenge for paintings with lots of detail but can be painted and be part of a set.
Please note these jugs are more like a handcrafted jug, each one varies a little and there can be small irregularities in the texture. These are caused by the nature of the clay used and the shaping of the jug. They have a lovely antique feel to them.

We’ve got two sorts of plates, the coupe which are lovely delicate china with a slight scoop and perfect for wedding, anniversary, and commemorative plates. They come in three sizes and the large one is the best for wedding plates. We will add the names and the date of the wedding on to any picture you would like. Our kissing hares. a cockerel and hen or two harvest mice make great gifts. The smaller coupe plates are nice as newborn or child gifts, first cup and plate and again can be painted with a Chloe Cox Original design or we can paint from one of your pet photographs.
The rim plates are best if you want to use your plate. They are catering quality with a chip-resistant rim, this means under the plate there is a slight lip which makes them much tougher. The paintings are all dishwasher proof but not scrub proof so if you get something really sticky that won’t come off in the dishwasher then soft the plate in warm water and wipe gently with a soft cloth.
Again we were delighted to find these teapots. They are not identical in size or shape.
Small china teapot – 2 mugs
A charming little teapot that pours really well. Just imagine that sitting on your table with your pet or favourite animal on it. We paint the teapots in the same way as we paint the mugs so a back and front. As this is a customised product you can have any wording you wish on this pot. Looks great with a couple of mugs and a small churn jug on a tray for afternoon tea.
Large china teapot 3-4 mugs
A lovely sturdy teapot that pours really well. Just imagine that sitting on your table with your pet or favourite animal on it. We paint the teapots in the same way as we paint the mugs so a back and front. As this is a customised product you can have any wording you wish on this pot.
